Understanding Discount Types in Brandscope

Know which discount structure suits your pricing strategy before you build

Note: Do not introduce this function until you’ve discussed this with us, as this can impact your integration.

Why it matters

Brandscope supports several discount configurations, and choosing the right structure before setup saves significant rework. This guide explains the key concepts so you can make the right decisions when configuring your discount schemes.

Scheme Types: Static vs Dynamic

Static discounts apply unconditionally — whenever a retailer places an order, the discount applies automatically. Use static discounts when you want a consistent, always-on rate for a retailer or group of retailers (e.g. a trade account that always receives 10% off).

Dynamic discounts are triggered by a threshold — either a minimum order value in dollars or a minimum unit quantity. Use dynamic discounts when you want to incentivise larger orders or reward retailers who reach a spending target (e.g. 10% off orders over $500, 15% off orders over $5,000).

Discount Types: Where the Discount Applies

Once you've chosen a scheme type, each discount rule also requires a discount type — this determines what the discount is calculated against:

  • Order — applies to the total order value, regardless of product category
  • Category — applies only to the total value of products within a specific discount category
  • Order/Category — applies if either the total order value or the total value within a category reaches the threshold. The most flexible option, typically used for dynamic schemes with multiple category tiers

Choosing the right combination

Your goal Recommended setup
Always give a retailer a flat discount Static — Order
Reward high-value orders across all products Dynamic — Order
Different rates for different product groups Static or Dynamic — Category
Tiered discounts across mixed product types Dynamic — Order/Category

📝 Note:  Only one discount scheme can be applied to a retailer at any time. If a retailer's pricing needs are complex, use discount categories within a single scheme rather than creating multiple schemes.
